Hitting your protein target from a UK supermarket shop

Aisha Khan · 23 June 2026 · 5 min read

The most common reason members miss their protein target isn't willpower — it's a shopping basket that made the target impossible before the week started.

Anchor each meal, don't count all day

Aim for 30–40 g at three anchor points: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Greek yoghurt (10 g per 100 g), eggs, chicken thighs, tinned fish, and frozen prawns cover the anchors for roughly £6 a day at any of the big four supermarkets.

If breakfast has under 20 g of protein, you're chasing the target all day.

The snacks do the rest: a protein shake is fine, but so are milk, edamame, or the criminally underrated cottage cheese. Scan the barcode, watch the bar fill, move on with your life.

Let the scanner do the arithmetic

You don't need to memorise any of this. Scan what you actually eat for one normal week — FitCoach will show you where the gaps are, and the fix is usually one swap per meal, not a new diet.
